After GTAC there was a hole... testing got a swift kick in the $!@# and suddenly those of us who are much more committed realized that there's something much more to what we do. I simply don't believe a single company can define what is new verson of testing. Given that your guys have a big re-org last year, and a couple of well established tester leave away, your guys are possiblible just exploring.
I feel that its not like if "test is dead". I feel that its like as if in the race to go live early, companies have decided to accept average quality. So they dont suggest to spend time in testing, instead they prefer to throw it to users with average quality. I still believe that Testers have a very important role to play in producing a quality software.
